Activities within eSTREAM

  • The collection of projects and initiatives in the same thematic area as eStream.

    The eStream partnership will collect projects and initiatives which are active in the same thematic area throughout Europe and beyond. The projects and initiatives will be analysed, described and published in a report. An online version of the report will be available via this website by the end of June 2004 as well as a database with descriptions and links to the different projects, actors and institutions.

  • Testing and evaluation of the didactical use of Streaming media in classroom

    eStream will develop a number of learning scenarios, combining classroom and distance learning, in order to test and evaluate the impact of Streaming technology on learning in schools. A report will be drawn up and made available via this website. The report will be available by 30th. October 2004.

  • A virtual demonstrator of a multilingual video on demand and streaming service

    eStream will provide a virtual demonstrator of a multilingual media on demand and streaming service. It will be possible to translate an automatically recorded speakers text into other languages and to use this to subtitle the video. In addition, a whole set of metadata of a specific medium can be translated as well. Videos will be collected, encoded and integrated into the media on demand system. A frontend will enable the eStream partners to put in the translation of a text and the metadata (duration, title, subtitle). The general aim of this workpackage is the provision of a media on demand service based on latest technology which also can be used as a mechanism for the exchange of media between different partners countries. The media on demand service will be available by October 2004.

  • The development of strategies on the large scale deployment of streaming media in school education

    Strategies will be developed on how to handle the distribution of streaming media to a big quantity of schools.

  • A transnational workshop

    eStream will organise a transnational workshop with leading European projects and initiatives which are active in the same thematic area. The aim of the meeting which will be hosted by the Belgium partner of eStream, Atit/ Audiovisualvisual technologies, informatics and telecommunications, is to promote networking and sharing of experiences between projects, actors and institutions experienced with innovative projects on the use of streaming media in school education. The workshop will take place in June 2005 in Leuven/Belgium.
  • An online utilizing service

    As part of the website, an online utilizing service will provide an educational support process to a wider community of schools, from awareness raising to the utilization of streaming media in classroom and for organisational tasks in school education. The utilizing service will be set up in January 2004 and maintained and extended until the end of the project. An online promotion and discussion forum will invite other actors to take part in the exchange of experiences regarding the educational use of streaming media, including the issue of sharing streaming material between different European countries.

  • A European conference

    A European conference open to up to 200 people will be organised in Patras, Greece, in spring 2006. The aims of the conference are to bring together educational experts, scientists and decision makers in order to promote networking of experiences, to share latest research results and to disseminate innovative applications of streaming media in school education. The conference will be open, the deadline for submission of papers will be the 15th of January 2006. More information will follow in time.

  • A final concluding report on the educational use of streaming media

    Out from the experiences collected and the activities implemented within eStream, the partnership will draw up a final concluding report on the impact of streaming media on learning, teaching and on school organisation. This report will be ready by May 2006 and will be available via this website.
